Does your area allow searchlights?
While not very many, some cities/towns have restrictions on searchlights
and flashy billboards (i.e. signs can’t be above a certain height). Check your
local commercial planning guide or email the town office!

Are you near an airport?

moving lights within 5 miles of an airport.

Step 4
Do Your Homework on Products
- Check the IP Rating
(Ingress Protection: a two-digit number established by the International
Electro Technical Commission, is used to provide an Ingress Protection rating to
a piece of electronic equipment or to an enclosure for electronic equipment).
- Lamp Life: Check how long the lamp lasts (usually measured
in hours)
- Production Materials: Is the unit made out of plastic or
steel? Steel or metal is more durable
and weather resistant than plastic.
-Electricity Requirements: Some searchlights (like DNJ Pro’sNovalight Single 1.2KW) can be plugged into a standard 110V outlet, other
larger searchlights require 3 Phase Electricity (in more industrial buildings)
or 230V electricity OR a large generator. Make sure you have ample power supply
for the sky tracer unit(s) you are interested in.
Step 5
Request a demo, demonstration videos and pictures or visit
the location.
If possible, request a demo from the company or visit the
company personally (schedule an appointment first!) to see the searchlights in
action!
Step 6
Re-Evaluate
After seeing the lights you may have to reevaluate your
budget- but still remember to keep your finances in mind. Don’t commit to
something that could potentially cause a financial burden!
